Guys, guys. Listen. I know sometimes Perth seems like a pretty far-away place, but you need to know - the Edge of the Web conference is worth the plane trip. This year's conference was an enjoyable mixture of old and new faces, and quite a few awe-inspiring, talented people were able to come along and present. Also, I was there! /s I particularly enjoyed chatting with Derrek Powazek, Ruth Ellison and Matt Balara - thanks, guys! Every speaker I interacted with left me with a renewed sense of purpose and enthusiasm for the work I do. Thanks to all who chatted with me on Twitter and in person, many laughs were had, and many rich foods were eaten (or rotated with hypnotic background music... see links). Many great photographs were taken during the event, and many freebies were handed out by the fantastic local sponsors. But enough with the name-dropping and the squeeing, let's see some entertaining links. Here are some of the websites/pages mentioned during the convention that amused me, informed me, and/or made me spend my money:
Fray magazine - Just subscribed - now to eagerly await my t-shirt.
User testing tool from Loop11 - recommended by several people at the event.
Francis Galton - The man who considered the majority of humans to be absolutely stupid, but inadvertently discovered the beginnings of the 'wisdom of crowds' concept through his research.
Use baysian filtering on internet comments to test for potential stupidity.
Most-favourited tweets of the moment - some comedy gems here.
Toothpaste for Dinner - Just when I was thinking I had already found all the good webcomics on the net.
Diesel Sweeties - I've been reading this webcomic for about, eek, 6-7 years now, but here's a plug as it came up during the con a few times and there are ROBOTS. Enjoy my selection of digital goodness.
